Applications for financial assistance to enable law librarians to attend IALL’s 36th Annual Course – IALL 2017 – in Atlanta, Georgia, USA from 22 October to 25 October 2017 are now being accepted.

To apply, please fill in and submit the appropriate online application form. The application and all documentation must be in English. Expenses must be calculated in $US dollars. See application information and guidelines below.

IALL awards two distinct types of bursaries:

  1. Regular Bursaries which are available to non-members and members; three will be awarded.
  2. Members-Only Bursaries for current Individual members who have been members who have been members for the most recent three years; four such bursaries will be awarded.

IALL bursaries are not open to officers or members of the Board of Directors of the Association. See Selection Guidelines below for each bursary category.

Deadline

The application deadline is Saturday 22nd July for both Regular and Members-Only Bursaries.

Applications

To apply, please fill in and submit the appropriate online application form. Please be sure to upload all required documentation with your online application: personal statement explaining why you wish to attend the conference, 2 Letter of reference (1 must be from your current employer) and a copy of your CV/resume. The application and all documentation must be in English. Expenses must be calculated in $US dollars.

Covered expenses: Please be sure to fill in the itemized estimates of covered expenses portion of the application form; covered expenses include air fare, train fare, ground transportation, hotel, visa or reciprocity fees.

Note that Conference registration, which is gratis for bursary winners, includes several meals as well as refreshments; see the conference programme for more information.

Regular Bursary Eligibility and Selection Guidelines

  1. Applicants need not be members of the Association.
  2. Applicants must be in current employment in librarianship with significant legal context to their work. The bursaries are not available to students or those not currently in employment.
  3. Preference will be given to:
    1. applicants who demonstrate promise and are likely to make a significant contribution to the profession of law librarianship;
    2. applicants who cannot otherwise afford to attend;
    3. applicants who have not received an Members-Only IALL bursary or scholarship in the past 5 years;
    4. applicants who have not attended a conference outside their own country / region or studied or worked outside their own country before.

Members Only Bursary Eligibility and Selection Guidelines

  1. Applicants must be dues-paying Individual / formerly Personal members of IALL for the current year and at least the two immediately preceding calendar years.
  2. Applicants must be in current employment in librarianship with significant legal context to their work. The bursaries are not available to students or those not currently in employment.
  3. Preference will be given to:
    1. applicants with a demonstrated commitment to IALL and its mission;
    2. applicants who demonstrate promise and are likely to make significant contributions to the association and the profession of law librarianship;
    3. applicants who have not received a Members-Only IALL bursary in the past 5 years;
    4. applicants who cannot otherwise afford to attend.

Award

The Scholarships Committee in consultation with the IALL President will decide on awards. The Committee may make awards, vary the amount of the awards or make additional awards within the above limit. The Association’s decisions on the award of bursaries are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
